Project update
In 2024, we consulted with the local community on the design for the upgrade of Gladeswood Reserve playspace in Mulgrave.
We invited your ideas for a new playspace, and developed a draft concept plan for your feedback. We also asked for feedback on a multipurpose court, outdoor fitness hub and large picnic shelter, as well as the preferred location for a public toilet.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback.
What happens next
The upgrade to Gladeswood Reserve playspace, active recreation space, outdoor fitness hub and public toilet is currently on hold pending funding approval in a future Council budget.
We would like to acknowledge and thank those who took part in the design consultation in 2024.
Your input and feedback have informed the concept designs and helped to confirm the site of the public toilet (Option B in the draft concept plan), and we hope to deliver these upgrades in the future.

Frequently asked questions
Playspace upgrade design
Gladeswood Reserve is classified as a ‘district’ scale open space in Council's Open Space Strategy, catering to residents within 2.5 km. The design guidelines include:
- Combination of 8 to 12 items of play equipment designed to engage intergenerational groups
- Equipment designs that offer high-level of play opportunity are preferred over aesthetic theming
- Value adding, e.g. logs than can be used as garden edging, casual seating and for balance play
- It should complement play provision in nearby playspaces
- Nature-based play, typically rocks, logs and plantings (sand and water play are limited to Regional or District playspaces due to high maintenance levels)
- Facilitate opportunities for social interaction
- Inclusive designs and wheelchair accessible path system
- Something that contributes to a unique local identity (Playspace Design Principles & Considerations)
