Tennis centre moves further into the design phase with architects appointed

10 August 2021

Construction of the $26.7million Monash Tennis Centre in Glen Waverley has moved a step closer with the announcement that Mantric Architecture has been appointed to provide design consultancy services for the project.

Mantric Architecture has been responsible for the design of major sports and recreation projects including the Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic Centre (GESAC) in Bentleigh East and the State Basketball Centre in Wantirna South.

Mantric also has extensive experience in collaborating with councils and sporting organisations in the delivery of projects like the Duncan MacKinnon Sports Pavilion in Murrumbeena, the Bendigo Tennis Centre and the Tatterson Park Sports Pavilion in Keysborough.

The Glen Waverley Sports Hub design will include a regional level tennis and golf facility, golf practice facilities, public open space improvements, car parking and supporting infrastructure.

Another exciting aspect of the project will be the environmental sustainability opportunities to be incorporated within the design brief including water sensitive urban design, sustainably-sourced materials with high recycled content and reduced landfill as well as low energy lighting and appliances.

It is expected that the design phase will continue until early-2022 with construction to commence in mid-2022 and that the centre will be ready for play in early-2024.

Council will continue to inform and consult with local residents as the design phase of the project progresses.
