Suburban Rail Loop – Summary of community submissions

9 July 2025

During March and April this year, the Victorian Government invited community feedback on draft structure plans and planning controls for the land within future Suburban Rail Loop precincts.

The draft structure plans set out a framework for how Suburban Rail Loop precincts will grow over time, and includes new planning controls for taller buildings, as well as more housing and employment opportunities.

Through the consultation the State Government received 817 submissions on a wide range of issues, which have been have been summarised by the Suburban Rail Loop Authority.

Council adopted its submission in April, continuing our overall support for the SRL both as a transformational rail and precinct planning project. However, our submission highlighted key concerns and missed opportunities to get the most out of the project for our community.

The next step in the Victorian Government’s consultation process is the consideration of issues and submissions by the Suburban Rail Loop East Precincts Standing Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC will review submissions referred to it and provide recommendations to the Minister for Planning upon completion of its review process.

The SAC is scheduled to commence in late July, where a detailed timetable for issues and referred submissions will be established. The detailed review of station precincts and line wide issues is scheduled to commence in late August.

Council will be part of these hearings and will expand on the issues raised in our submissions as part of our advocacy for the best outcomes for the Monash community.
