We’ve opened the doors at the world-class Oakleigh South Child and Family Hub (Oakleigh South) at 1228 North Road, with the official opening held on 7 March 2024.
Starting in March 2023 and completed in January 2024, the project was supported with $3.7 million in funding by the Victorian Government through the Building Blocks Partnership agreement, with Council contributing $2.3 million.
With warm natural finishings and sleek, modern design, the building houses two kindergarten rooms that will provide a total of 66 kindergarten places to meet the needs of the community. The building also includes rooms for Monash's Maternal and Child Health service, and a multipurpose room that will be home to the Oakleigh South Girl Guides and other community groups.
Architects for the project AOA Christopher Peck created spacious interiors that open out to external decking and outdoor learning areas where children can explore the natural environment under the cool shade of leafy trees.
Constructed by Simbuilt, Oakleigh South brings together a range of professional services to let families build ongoing relationships with maternal and child health services, playgroup facilitators and kindergarten educators under the one roof.
It is the third of four child and family hubs to be built in the City of Monash, following the two award-winning facilities at Wellington Child and Family Hub (completed in 2022) and Pinewood Child and Family Hub (2023).
The new hub is currently the base for Ward Avenue Kindergarten's programs while their kindergarten facility in Oakleigh South undergoes construction throughout 2024.
A new kindergarten is planned to run at the building in 2025, with Council working to appoint a service provider.
Council is delivering a fourth child and family hub at Dorrington Drive in Mount Waverley. Works are also underway to rebuild Ashwood Memorial Kindergarten in Ashwood.
