To support the long-term vision and sustainability of our libraries, we are developing a new strategy that reflects the needs of our community while also preparing for the changing expectations of the future.

We are already investing in our library infrastructure with works underway for a brand-new Glen Waverley Library, along with the refurbishment to our other library branches.

Our new strategy will plan for key challenges facing our community and outline how the library service can play an active role in supporting community goals across all areas of modern life.

What is our focus?

Areas we will be exploring through the development of the new strategy include:

  • Evolving role of libraries

Understanding that libraries mean different things to different people.

  • More resources

Including opportunites for lifelong learning and creative expression.

  • Digital access and services

Offering access to digital learning and online services (such as Wi-Fi, computers and printers).

  • Community spaces

Ensuring our spaces are inclusive and welcoming to everyone.

  • Sustainability and social impact

Ensuring upgrades to libraries are sustainable.

  • Operational landscape

Strengthening our daily operations to ensure we are meeting the needs of communities.

How can I contribute?

You are invited to tell us how you use our libraries, what you love about them, and what the ideal library service of the future looks like.

Your insights will play a key role in shaping our direction for the next five years and will make sure our libraries continue to meet the needs of the community.

You can contribute your thoughts by adding comments, uploading a drawing, or by voting on other people's comments.
You can also complete our Customer Satisfaction Survey at the bottom of this page to help us improve our services.

Have your say by Sunday 5 April 2026.

We will analyse all feedback collected to help inform our new strategy. We will consider how you use our service to determine what our priorities should be in the new strategy.

  • Strategic focus of the library
  • Opportunities for continuous improvement to our service
  • Council will have a 5-year Monash Public Library Services Strategy
  • The way we operate our library services

Once the draft strategy has been prepared, we will take it back to the community for their comment. This will help ensure we have considered your feedback.

You can provide your feedback by sharing your thoughts and ideas below. Once you have added your comment or idea, this will be published for the public to see.

If you do not want your comments or ideas for the public to see, you can email them to margherita.barbante@monash.vic.gov.au

If you want to share your ideas in-person you can speak to us at any of our library branches.

Anyone can have their say.

You don't need to be a registered Monash Public Library Service member or user.
