New playspace flies high at Highview

Highview Park playspace in Glen Waverley has reopened! We’re excited to welcome families back to explore the reserve’s new features.

Armed with community feedback, Council has transformed the old, ageing playground to create a visually inviting space for the local community.

The reserve now features engaging new play elements, and an enhanced natural escarpment with garden beds, feature plantings of native species and rock and log features.

Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on this project. Your ideas and insights helped to make this playspace more engaging for children and their families.

We hope you enjoy this exciting new space!

Exciting play elements

Children will delight in this local-classification playspace, which is designed for neighbouring families living within 400 metres. A new multi-level play unit, swing set with basket swing and exciting rope spinner can be enjoyed by a range of ages, while young children are catered for with equipment such as the rocker and toddler slide.

A nature play area, mound slide and rock scramble will also inspire plenty of nature play opportunities.

Natural landscaping

Based on community feedback, we also enhanced the natural rockface (escarpment) with garden beds, feature plantings of native species and rock and log features. The upgrade was sensitively designed to highlight the escarpment, while not blocking the view to or from the cliff face.

Accessible pathways, seating and table, relocated signage, and fencing cap off the range of improvements at the reserve.

Background

In 2022, we sought ideas from the local community for a new playspace at Highview Park, Glen Waverley.

We incorporated some of the community’s ideas into an exciting draft concept plan and sought feedback for it in early 2023.

Construction ran from January to May 2024.
