Background

Council has developed a draft Climate Resilience Plan, which will replace its Environmental Sustainability Strategy and Zero Net Carbon Action Plan.

The plan outlines how we will work with our community to respond to the impacts of a changing climate, future-proof our places and spaces and continue to reduce our emissions.

Our goal is to ensure Monash is better prepared to adapt and thrive in a changing climate.

Key priority areas

The key priority areas of our plan are:
  • Governance and Partnerships

Work together to ensure a coordinated response to climate impacts.

  • People and communities

Continue educating our community on climate resilience and emission reduction.

  • Places and nature

Protect and improve our natural places and spaces, enhance livability and biodiversity, and support community wellbeing.

  • Net Zero Operations and Circular Economy

Continue to reduce Council emissions through efficient operations that avoid and minimise waste and promote reuse and repair.

  • Resilient assets and services

Design and manage Council assets so they are more resilient to extreme weather events and a changing climate.
