We're undertaking an exciting project to upgrade the pavilion at Carlson Reserve, Clayton.

The $2.8M upgrade will include the demolition of the current pavilion and construction of a modern, modular pavilion designed in consultation with the tenant clubs. The new building is designed to meet sports facility standards and caters for the needs of the clubs.

The new pavilion will feature:

  • Four change room facilities, capable of merging into two larger spaces as needed
  • Umpire's room
  • A fully-equipped kitchen
  • A social space and a dedicated first aid room
  • Storage for tenant clubs
  • Public toilets.

Demolition of the existing building will start on Wednesday 27 March 2024, with the project due to be finished in early September 2024.

There will be some disruption to reserve users during this time, with temporary fencing in place to ensure the area remains safe. Temporary toilet facilities will be provided at the reserve to replace the existing public toilets attached to the pavilion.

The playground and surrounding areas will be closed on Saturday 6 April 2024.

We appreciate your patience and hope you will enjoy this improvement to your neighbourhood.

Background information

We previously identified the pavilion as a priority for redevelopment through the Active Monash Capital Works Prioritisation Framework and through asset condition audit inspections.

This project was designed in consultation with the facility's tenant clubs and will address key building constraints and meet current building facility guidelines and building regulations. The project will:

  • deliver engaging and coherent recreational spaces for the enjoyment of all visitors
  • support diversity, access, and equity for people of all ages, genders, physical abilities, and cultural backgrounds.

The works will be undertaken by KL Modular Systems (Aust) Pty Ltd. See the report to Council for more information: Tender for Carlson Reserve Pavilion Redevelopment

This project follows a three-staged program of works to revitalise and expand Carlson Reserve, which delivered improvements to the reserve’s playground, forecourt and multi-sport courts.
