Sport is an important part of the Monash community, serving as a focal point for community identity, engagement, pride and achievement.

The diversity of sports and sporting activities (including social sport and active recreation) make it an ideal way to reach people from every age group, gender, sexuality, culture, socioeconomic background and abilities. Our sporting clubs play a vital role in breaking down barriers to participation and driving sport as a vehicle for positive social change.

Adopted in August 2020, the Active Monash Sports Club Framework 2022-2027 (the ‘Framework’) was established to encourage sustainable and inclusive Monash sporting clubs.

The Framework seeks to support and build the capacity of community clubs to become more sustainable, inclusive and welcoming through learning and development opportunities in areas of diversity, respect and social responsibility.

Following Council’s recent endorsement of the Melbourne East Region Sport and Recreation (MERSRS) Fair Access Policy, we have reviewed and updated the Framework to ensure it is consistent and inline with relevant Monash and State Government policy positions. Please refer to our FAQs for more information on key changes.

The Active Monash Sports Club Framework Refresh presents a new five-year program (2024-2029) that aims to support and incentivise clubs to achieve good governance, inclusive participation outcomes and best practice management by achieving gold or platinum level accreditation under the Framework.

Consultation on the refreshed Framework closed Sunday 25 August 2024.

How to participate

Consultation closed Sunday 25 August 2024.

Your feedback will help shape the final Framework, where sports clubs and Council can work together to achieve a shared vision for community outcomes through sport.

Sports Club Framework Priority Areas

The Framework will focus on three priority areas:
  • Healthy and Resilient

Aims to ensure that sports clubs provide opportunities for all members of our community to participate in sport, be physically active, healthy and well, with a focus on ensuring people are healthy and safe from harm from alcohol and other drugs, violence, gambling, discrimination and harrassment, and diet.

  • Inclusive and Accountable

Aims to ensure that clubs are welcoming and inclusive to everyone in Monash, such as women and girls and LGBTIQA+ community members, and that clubs are meeting their legislative and other requirements, and have their governance in order.

  • Sustainable

Aims to ensure that clubs are planning for the future, by building club capacity to demonstrate robust financial management, good governance practices and strategic planning to enable them to sustain and grow membership and diverse participation outcomes.
