Project update

Thank you to those who submitted feedback on the Safe Pedestrian Project. The project will commence as planned and will take place during April and May 2022.

Council has been successful in receiving funding from the Department of Transport Safe Pedestrians Program to improve pedestrian safety at various intersections within the activity centre area.

A high number of pedestrian incidents are occurring within the Centre, with an initial round of treatments undertaken in 2017/18 to assist with modifying driver behaviour and facilitate safe pedestrian crossing locations. Additional works are required to further improve safety across the Centre.

We are seeking your feedback on the proposed works by 5pm, 4 February 2022.

This proposal is to enhance pedestrian safety by providing a priority along the desirable pedestrian crossing points at the intersections. To further improve pedestrian protection at existing crossing points, we propose to install traffic islands at each end of the zebra crossing where there is sufficient road space to do so. The proposed treatments at various locations are shown on the map below. Click on a hotspot for more information or view the more detailed plans below.
