Our Road Management Plan sets out how often we inspect and maintain Monash’s public roads and footpaths and how quickly we repair them.
With more than 750kms of local roads and 1,500kms of footpaths across Monash, we inspect the condition of our busiest roads once a year and our busiest footpaths once every three months.
Community satisfaction with our local roads, as measured by our annual community satisfaction survey, has been consistently good.
In 2023/24, we received 320 requests for road repairs and met our targets 99% of the time despite wetter conditions which can cause more potholes.
Last updated in 2021, we’ve amended our Road Management Plan to respond to changes in Victorian Government timeframes for necessary approvals and to make it easier for our community to understand.
We are now inviting community feedback on our proposed new Road Management Plan to make sure it meets your expectations.
What has changed from 2021?
From 10 working days to 20 working days.
The Victorian Government has extended its timeframes for approving work on major roads, including footpaths next to them.
This increased timeframe means we can obtain the required approvals when working on Council-managed roads that connect with arterial roads managed by the Victorian Government.
On local roads from 4.5m to 4.3m (unless signed otherwise).
This will preserve our tree canopy from unnecessary pruning.
This makes the Road Management Plan easier to read for our community and adopts recommendations from the Municipal Association of Victoria.
What happens next?
The community is invited to provide feedback on our amended Road Management Plan and proposed changes by 29 October.
We will then review feedback we receive and present a final Road Management Plan and a summary of the feedback received through consultation to Council for adoption.
