Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in these advisory committees.
At its 30 May 2023 meeting, Council endorsed the appointment of nine people to the Gender Equity Advisory Committee, 7 people to the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee and 5 people to the Disability Advisory Committee.
Are you passionate about issues related to women, the LGBTIQA+ community, or people living with a disability and their carers?
We're looking for people with lived experience to join 3 committees that advise Council on how we can improve things for all the diverse communities of Monash.

FAQs
The committees meet bi-monthly (6 times per year) up to 2 hours for each meeting.
The position is for a 2-year term, with potential to extend one further term (another 2 years).
Advisory Committees provide advice to Council on various projects from their perspective of lived experience or expertise.
For example, the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee provided valuable feedback and helped develop the LGBTIQA+ Action Plan.
The Advisory Committees also monitor the implementation of the Health and Wellbeing Plan and other action plans that are relevant to their perspective. Each committee is governed by a set of rules and Council's Advisory Committee Policy.
For the Disability Advisory Committee, having a lived experience of disability means you're someone with a disability or care for or support a person with a disability in some way.
For the LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee, we are seeking nominees who are passionate about issues experienced by LGBTIQA+ communities.
For the Gender Equity Committee, we are seeking nominees who are passionate about issues related to women.
All Advisory Committees are governed by the Advisory Committee Policy and Advisory Committee Governance Rules. In addition are rules around Conflict of Interest and each committee has a Terms of Reference.

Anyone can nominate to join the Committee. You do not need to have any experience with previous committees to join. The Committees aim to represent the needs of people of different abilities, ages, genders, cultures, and geographic locations across our municipality, as well as a range of areas of interest or expertise.
