Project background

Council has received feedback of ongoing traffic speeding issues near the bend along Coora Road and Haughton Road in Oakleigh South.

These concerns are supported by data, which indicates consistent patterns of vehicles travelling at inappropriate speed along the road and bend. Additionally, two serious crashes were recorded over the five-year period ending December 2023 - both involving excessive speed that led to vehicles losing control.

As a result of these concerns, we have applied for an external grant through the Federal Black Spot Program 2026/27. The funding will support installation of traffic management treatments that will address these dangerous road safety issues.

What we're proposing

To respond to community concerns and to improve safety, we’re proposing to install five (5) modified flat-top road humps between Huntingdale Road and Natalia Avenue.

The road humps are proposed to be located outside 194, 204 and 214 Haughton Road, and outside 2A and 8-12 Coora Road. These locations provide an even spacing that will reduce traffic speed, especially approaching the bend.

Importantly, this initiative has been carefully planned to ensure there is no adverse impact on kerbside parking.

You can view the proposed road hump locations and examples below.
