About this project

We are proud to present the City of Monash’s inaugural LGBTIQA+ Action Plan.

The Plan was developed in close collaboration with Council’s LGBTIQA+ Advisory Committee, with input from our community through consultation.

As the closest level of government to the community, Council has an important role in celebrating diversity, encouraging social inclusion and ensuring equity, safety and access across Monash for everyone, regardless of sexuality, sex characteristics or gender identity.

Our first LGBTIQA+ Action Plan builds on our commitment to LGBTIQA+ inclusion and provides a framework and actions to better understand and respond to the experiences and priorities of LGBTIQA+ communities in Monash.

LGBTIQA+

Not sure what LGBTIQA+ stands for? At Monash we use LGBTIQA+ for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer/questioning and asexual. The plus sign acknowledges that language may evolve in how we describe the diverse ways in which people can experience gender, sexuality, and sex characteristics.

Summary of engagement

Earlier this year, we asked the Monash community to share their voice and help us to better understand and respond to the experiences and needs of the LGBTIQA+ community in Monash. We formally consulted with approximately 150 community representatives who reflected a diverse spectrum of ages, cultural backgrounds, abilities, sexual orientations and gender identities.

The consultations informed our current draft that outlines key principles, priority areas, goals and actions.
